dc.description.abstractSpanish youth’s process of transition to adult life illustrates the complex effects of a prolonged economic crisis that emerged in 2008 and exacerbated an already precarious labour market. In this article, we approach this panorama of social change from the perspective of the young individuals who find themselves immersed in this passage from one crisis to another – from a global economic crisis to COVID-19 – and between two symbolic realities, one marked by individualism and the other by individualisation. Based on a discourse analysis of 20 in-depth interviews and three focus groups with young adults, conducted between 2018 and 2019 for a publicly funded RDI project, we analyse how the process of individualisation tied to a self-sufficient model of human agency may contribute to an increased reliance on individual solutions to social problems. Furthermore, we underline how these individualised pathways involve a dependency on multiple supports which are characterised by a series of tensions. Consequently, we seek to elucidate the manner in which vulnerable young workers navigate, both interpretively and practically, the trials of social life as well as the expectations associated with individualism/individualisation within a context of crisis and uncertainty.en
dc.description.abstractLe processus de transition des jeunes Espagnols vers la vie adulte illustre les effets complexes d’une crise économique prolongée qui a commencé en 2008 et a exacerbé un marché du travail déjà précaire. Dans cet article, nous abordons ce panorama de changement social du point de vue des jeunes individus qui se trouvent immergés dans ce passage d’une crise à une autre – d’une crise économique mondiale au Covid-19 –, et entre deux réalités symboliques, l’une marquée par l’individualisme et l’autre par l’individualisation. Sur la base d’une analyse du discours de 20 entretiens approfondis et de trois groupes de discussion avec de jeunes adultes, menés entre 2018 et 2019 pour un projet de RDI financé par des fonds publics, nous analysons comment le processus d’individualisation lié à un modèle autosuffisant de la capacité d’agir humaine peut contribuer à recourir davantage à des solutions individuelles aux problèmes sociaux. De plus, nous soulignons comment ces parcours individualisés impliquent de dépendre de soutiens multiples qui sont caractérisés par une série de tensions. Nous cherchons ainsi à élucider la manière dont les jeunes travailleurs vulnérables font face, tant sur le plan interprétatif que pratique, aux épreuves de la vie sociale ainsi qu’aux attentes associées à l’individualisme et à l’individualisation dans un contexte de crise et d’incertitude.fr
dc.description.abstractEl proceso de transición a la vida adulta de la juventud española ilustra los efectos complejos de una prolongada crisis económica que surgió en 2008 y exacerbó un mercado laboral ya de por sí precario. En este artículo se aborda este panorama de cambio social desde la perspectiva de unos jóvenes que se encuentran inmersos en este tránsito en medio de dos grandes crisis – de una crisis económica mundial a la COVID-19 –, y entre dos realidades simbólicas, una marcada por el individualismo y la otra por la individualización. Grupos de discusión con jóvenes adultos, realizados entre 2018 y 2019 dentro de un proyecto de I + D + i financiado con fondos públicos, se analiza cómo puede contribuir el proceso de individualización ligado a un modelo de auto-suficiencia de la agencia humana a una mayor dependencia de las soluciones individuales a los problemas sociales. Además, se subraya cómo estos caminos individualizados implican una dependencia de múltiples soportes que se caracterizan por una serie de tensiones. Así pues, se trata de dilucidar la manera en que los trabajadores jóvenes vulnerables se desenvuelven, tanto interpretativa como en la práctica, frente a los desafíos de la vida social, así como de las expectativas asociadas con el individualismo/individualización en un contexto de crisis e incertidumbre.es
