The main objective of the paper is to obtain an accurate method to construct an equivalent circuit that simulates the motor, using some specific parameters. The method has three steps. In the first step, we simulate two indirect tests to represent rotating induction machines, standstill and locked rotor tests. Using the test results, we define an equations system that incorporates the longitudinal end-effect. The system allows us to select specific parameters needed to build the equivalent circuit using six different configurations. In the second step, we classify the parameters in two groups: parameters from the primary and secondary parts. We test the primary part parameters defining the magnetizing inductance as a combination of the longitudinal and the transversal magnetizing inductance. To this end, the method analyses the first harmonic of the magnetic field wave along the air gap, which is located above the central teeth. Thus, it is possible to establish a difference between transversal and longitudinal components of the magnetic field density. The parameters of the secondary part will be compared using 2D Field Theory with a linear induction motor that operates with a transverse flux configuration. The geometry of the motor has been modified to be able to operate with a mixed magnetic flux configuration and with a new configuration of paths for the eddy currents induced inside the aluminum plate. To this end, two slots of dielectric have been introduced into the aluminum layer of the moving part with a dimension of 1 mm, an iron yoke into the primary part, and lastly, the width of the transversal slots has been optimized. Specifically, in the enhanced motor, there are two magnetic fluxes inside the motor that circulate across two different planes: a longitudinal magnetic flux which goes along the direction of the movement and a transversal magnetic flux which is closed through a perpendicular plane with respect to that direction. With this new configuration, the motor achieves a great increment of the thrust force without increasing the electrical supply. In addition, the proposed model creates a new spatial configuration of the eddy currents and an improvement of the main magnetic circuit. These novelties are relevant because they represent a great improvement in the efficiency of the linear induction motor for low velocities at a very low cost. All simulations have been made with the finite elements method—3D, both in standstill conditions and in motion in order to obtain the characteristic curves of the main forces developed by the linear induction motor.Publicación Red Automatl@bs. Here we introduce a new technique for rapid searching and retrieval of “similar” signals. The approach consists of building a classification system that avoids traversing the whole database looking for similarities. The classification system diminishes the problem dimensionality (by means of waveform feature extraction) and reduces the searching space to just the most probable “similar” waveforms (clustering techniques). In the searching procedure, the input waveform is classified in any of the existing clusters. Then, a similarity measure is computed between the input signal and all cluster elements in order to identify the most similar waveforms. The inner product of normalized vectors is used as the similarity measure as it allows the searching process to be independent of signal gain and polarity. This development has been applied recently to TJ-II stellarator databases and has been integrated into its remote participation system.Publicación Explainable AI for predicting household demand flexibility: Insights from smart meter data and price-based programs(Elsevier, 2026-01-27) Bañales, Santiago; Dormido Canto, Raquel; Duro Carralero, NatividadUnlocking Demand‐Side Flexibility (DSF) at scale is essential for integrating variable renewables and electrified end-uses. We develop a scalable, explainable-AI framework to assess the predictability and drivers of household responsiveness to price-based programs using only data typically available to utilities (smart meters, basic weather, limited socio-economic tags). Using the public Low Carbon London Time-of-Use (ToU) pilot, we first estimate responsiveness with Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) at both aggregated and household levels—overall and by hour—to quantify effect sizes and heterogeneity. We then train Gradient-Boosting (GB) models and apply SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to assess the hierarchy and direction of drivers of flexibility. Results show statistically significant but moderate average responses with wide dispersion across households and time-of-day, including a significant percentage of counter-intuitive reactions to price. Features capturing unexplained variability in hourly and daily load (e.g., dispersion measures of residual components) are the strongest positive predictors of flexibility, whereas seasonality/predictability indicators (autocorrelation and seasonal strength) are neutral or negative. SHAP dependence plots reveal clear thresholds, breakpoints, and saturation effects, underscoring the nonlinearity of behavioral response. Because the feature set is derived from routinely collected data, the approach is replicable and operationally practical.
