Este libro reúne un conjunto de contribuciones dedicadas a diferentes aspectos de la sociabilidad y su representación en textos ficcionales y factuales, representaciones visuales, musicales y teatrales que facilitan una mejor comprensión del entrelazamiento de las estructuras de poder con nuevas culturas comunicativas y sus estrategias de legitimación, las herramientas de cohesión social y los modos específicos de concebir y negociar los roles sociales. La interpretación de las acciones sociales depende en gran medida de los espacios en los que tienen lugar. En función de estos varían los actores, las capas sociales, las situaciones, los ambientes y las normas de comportamiento. Rosenwald Collection (Library of Congress, Wahsington, United States), filed under the name Sketchbook on military art, including geometry, fortification, artillery, mechanics, and pyrotechnics. The rich collection of texts and images included in this manuscript is studied as an example of the hybridization process that took place between art and technique, at the beginning of the 17th century, in the professional environment of florentine engineering. At the same time, this document is analyzed as a case study of the role played by the knowledge of military engineering techniques in the development of the artistic hybridization process linked to the work of a wide generation of technicians and artists.Publicación Suspend the Sense: Performativity, Technology, and Visual Culture in Il Cannocchiale per la Finta Pazza(Brill, 2024-12-12) Gómez López, ConsueloThis article explores the relationship in the Early Modern period between visual culture, spectacle,and technology. It investigates the processes that led machinery to become an essential part of the scenic discourse of the time, taking as reference Il Cannocchiale per la Finta Pazza, a unique document produced in 1641 by the Venetian opera industry and which, to date, has received only scant scholarly attention. It studies the information the manuscript provides on how theater engineering acquired a performative value when employed to affect the audience’s sensory experience. The methodological approach takes account of modern performative studies and the ‘sensory turn’ and reflects on how technology became an integral part of consumption of modern spectacle which, when viewed from the physical, social, and intellectual perspectives, constitutes a complex sensory space.Publicación Ahora públicas, ahora secretas. Era natural que fuese el Museo de América, que conserva una de las colecciones de búcaros más importantes y antiguas del mundo, quien encabezara este esfuerzo y esta exposición. En ella, se podrán admirar los búcaros más espectaculares de la colección del Museo y de instituciones prestamistas como Patrimonio Nacional, la Real Maestranza de Ronda o el Museo Nacional del Prado. These dedications are significant because they show how the authors of those books managed their strategies of self-promotion within the power of the court and weaved new relationships with sponsors and patrons. Through their dedications, they attempted to guarantee both their status as authors and that of their books. Circulating as objects throughout elite political networks, these scientific books also enabled less tangible transactions of knowledge, prestige and power
