This article analyzes the manuscript 27 of the L.S. Rosenwald Collection (Library of Congress, Wahsington, United States), filed under the name Sketchbook on military art, including geometry, fortification, artillery, mechanics, and pyrotechnics. The rich collection of texts and images included in this manuscript is studied as an example of the hybridization process that took place between art and technique, at the beginning of the 17th century, in the professional environment of florentine engineering. At the same time, this document is analyzed as a case study of the role played by the knowledge of military engineering techniques in the development of the artistic hybridization process linked to the work of a wide generation of technicians and artists.
