Publicación Inclusive Leisure as a Resource for Socio-Educational Intervention During COVID-19 Pandemic with Care Leavers trajectories(MDPI, 2021-08-07) Díaz Esterri, Jorge; De-Juanas Oliva, Ángel; Goig Martínez, Rosa María; García Castilla, Francisco Javier; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5621-1120; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0103-7860; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7551-2949; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3040-640XThe COVID-19 pandemic has led to a reduction in leisure activities involving human contact. Social isolation has increased, particularly amongst vulnerable individuals with a fragile support network, as is the case with young people who have left care. The aim of the present research was to identify socio-educational proposals and interventions implemented during the pandemic pertaining to leisure as a form of promoting social inclusion of these young people. To this end, a qualitative study was carried out in which twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with young people who had left care system, in addition to fifteen interviews with professionals working with this group when delivering socio-educational interventions. Discourse analysis revealed that isolation due to the health crisis had greater repercussions in normalised settings in which leisure activity was reduced with this increasing risk of social inclusion amongst these young people. Proposals and experiences emerging from this setting provide evidence that socio-educational interventions targeting leisure facilitate social inclusion. In this sense, future lines of research are suggested to optimise the outcomes of socio-educational interventions within this group.Publicación Risk and protective factors in the training-employment trajectory of young adult migrants who have left the guardianship system(Wiley, 2024-02-24) Díaz Esterri, Jorge; De-Juanas Oliva, Ángel; Goig Martínez, Rosa María; García Castilla, Francisco JavierIn recent years, young people's economic and employment possibilities have been compromised, especially in the case of vulnerable populations such as unaccompanied foreign minors who migrate to Spain and enter the guardianship system. The aim of this study was to identify this group's most representative training trajectories, and determine the risk and protective factors involved in their insertion to the labour market. To this end, 16 semi-structured interviews were conducted with young adult migrants who had left the system and 15 with professionals involved in their socio-educational intervention. The results highlight various factors that hinder the inclusion of young adult migrants in the formal education system, which has a negative impact on their subsequent insertion to the labour market. Actions and proposals were collected that aim to foster the educational inclusion of young adult migrants and promote their labour market insertion; an area considered essential in the transition to adulthood.Publicación Strategies of educational and social intervention in conditions of vulnerability: Ukraine, memory and hope(Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatyuk National Pedagogica University, 2023-12-30) García Castilla, Francisco Javier; Radvanska, Maryana; Acebes Valentín, RafaelWith the start of the war in Ukraine in 2014, or rather its second phase from 2022, it led to the largest displacement of population on European territory since the Second World War (UNHCR). The EU has strengthened its policy of assisting refugees in various EU member states with the aim of promoting better social and legal protection for persons of Ukrainian origin. In this context, the aim of this article is to present the experience of solidarity actions in the university environment and the social actors who have intervened in this situation through educational strategies, training and services (A&S), as well as the analysis of the model of providing social services through Reception, Care and Referral Centers of Displaced Ukrainians (CREADE) at the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Several conclusions can be drawn from this experience of educational and social work: the coordinated implementation and subsequent evaluation of joint plans and actions of social services at the local and community levels improves the impact on the model of social assistance, and therefore on the well-being of displaced persons, because they feel that their needs are met and that they are cared for, regardless of the situation in which they find themselves; greater involvement in the process is achieved by assessing the needs of the affected people themselves; and the values of citizenship and social responsibility are strengthened through solidarity and learning activities through socio-educational strategies using the Learning and Service (A&S) methodology. Scientific literature highlights that young people devote leisure time to sports for the purpose of enjoyment, and to maintain good health and body image. In addition, it provides the opportunity to socialize, and come into contact and connect with people who have shared interests. It is also an ideal resource for learning and developing social skills to ensure inclusion and the appropriate strategies for emotional management. Similarly, it favors the learning of values that promote the assumption of responsibilities, decision-making capacity, tolerance to frustration, and the development of resilience. This study considers the inherent benefits of physical-sports activities in order to analyze the impact on young people’s assessment of their own psychological wellbeing. To this effect, a quantitative ex post facto study was designed, and Ryff’s Model of Psychological Wellbeing was used with 1,148 young people from Spain and Colombia aged 16–21. The young people were asked whether or not they performed any type of physical-sports activity in their leisure time and the type of activity performed. The results show that young people who perform such activities have higher overall levels of psychological wellbeing. In turn, they emphasize that the perform of physical-sports activities has a positive impact on three of the dimensions of psychological wellbeing: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, and purpose in life. In addition, significant differences in young people’s psychological wellbeing were found depending on whether they perform individual, team or other physical-sports activities. These results provide a basis for the proposal and design of interventions with young people based on sports and leisure activities as socio-educational strategies.
