Publicación An event-based adaptation of the relay feedback experiment for frequency response identification of stable processes(Elsevier, 2023-04-13) Sánchez Moreno, José; Torre Cubillo, Luis de la; Chacón Sombría, Jesús; Dormido Canto, Sebastián; Elsevier; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0898-3462An event-based modification of the classical relay feedback experiment without the inclusion of additional elements (integrator, time delay, . . . ) for identification of the spectrum of stable processes between zero and the phase cross-over frequency is presented. By inserting an event-based sampler in the control loop, the natural behaviour of a classical relay is simulated and the system is forced to work in two modes. The event-based sampler activates the first mode by sending control actions to the process every time the error signal crosses zero; this mode is to discover the approximated value of the cross-over frequency ω180◦ . During the second mode, the event-based sampler sends samples to the process simulating that the error signal crosses zero at ω180◦ /N where N is the number of points to identify in the range 0 ≤ ω ≤ ω180◦ . One advantage of this procedure is that the logic used in an already existing relay feedback experiment to fit a transfer function model or tune a controller could be maintained just replacing the relay block by the event-based sampler block presented in the paper. Simulations and experiments with different processes and in presence of noise demonstrate the effectivity of the procedure.Publicación Identification of multiple frequency response points using gain-changing nonlinear feedback experiments(Elsevier, 2025-12-09) Romero Pérez, Julio Ariel; Miguel-Escrig, Oscar; Sánchez Moreno, José; Dormido Canto, Sebastián; Agencia Estatal de Investigación (España)Relay feedback experiments are well known for providing valuable information about system dynamics, which can be used for automatic PID controller tuning. The estimation of frequency response points from data obtained in such experiments is typically based on describing function theory, which assumes purely sinusoidal closed-loop responses and neglects higher-order harmonics. However, this assumption is often violated in low-order systems with poor filtering characteristics, resulting in reduced estimation accuracy. To address this issue, several alternatives, such as the saturation relay and pre-load relay, have been proposed in the literature, offering improved estimation performance. In this work, it is introduced a gain-changing nonlinear scheme for frequency points identification that enhances the accuracy of existing approaches. The experiments follow a similar structure to standard relay feedback tests, thus preserving their well-known advantages while significantly reducing estimation errors. Furthermore, by incorporating calculated time delays and dynamically adjusting the gain-changing parameters, the method generates multiple closed-loop oscillation conditions to identify several frequency response points, all while keeping the output amplitude within safe operational limits. Simulation results demonstrate a substantial improvement in estimation accuracy compared to both traditional and enhanced relay-based methods, offering a precise and practical solution for frequency response identification in industrial process control.Publicación Event-based Control: A Bibliometric Analysis of Twenty Years of Research(IEEE, 2020-03-04) Aranda Escolástico, Ernesto; Guinaldo Losada, María; Heradio Gil, Rubén; Chacón, Jesús; Vargas Oyarzún, Héctor; Sánchez, José; Sánchez Moreno, José; Dormido Canto, SebastiánThe potential benefits of networked control systems are tremendous, as they can be easily upgraded by just including new components (i.e., sensors, actuators, or controllers), avoiding any further modifications to their structure. A critical approach to unleash such potential benefits is event-based control, where the system output turns to be sampled on demand, instead of being sampled constantly at rigid periods of time. This paper analyzes from a bibliometric point of view the literature published for the last twenty years on event-based control, identifying the most relevant articles, authors, institutions, and journals. Moreover, the principal topics, motivations, and problems faced by the researchers are discussed, identifying distinct challenges and opportunities for future research.Publicación Heatflow: un laboratorio basado en web usando Easy JAva simulations y labview para el entrenamiento en técnicas de automatización(XII Latin-American Congress on Automatic Control , CD-ROM del Congreso, Salvador de Bahía (Brasil), october 2006, 2006-10-01) Vargas Oyarzún, Héctor; Dormido Bencomo, Sebastián; Canto Díez, María Antonia; Esquembre Martínez, Francisco; Dormido Canto, Raquel; Duro Carralero, Natividad; Sánchez Moreno, José; Dormido Canto, Sebastián; Farias, GonzaloPublicación Data mining technique for fast retrieval of similar waveforms in Fusion massive databases(Elsevier, 2008-01-01) Vega, J.; Pereira González, Augusto; Portas, A.; Santos, Matilde; Sánchez, E.; Pajares Martínsanz, Gonzalo; Dormido Canto, Sebastián; Dormido Canto, Raquel; Sánchez Moreno, José; Duro Carralero, Natividad; Farias, GonzaloFusion measurement systems generate similarwaveforms for reproducible behavior.Amajor difficulty related to data analysis is the identification, in a rapid and automated way, of a set of discharges with comparable behaviour, i.e. discharges with “similar” waveforms. Here we introduce a new technique for rapid searching and retrieval of “similar” signals. The approach consists of building a classification system that avoids traversing the whole database looking for similarities. The classification system diminishes the problem dimensionality (by means of waveform feature extraction) and reduces the searching space to just the most probable “similar” waveforms (clustering techniques). In the searching procedure, the input waveform is classified in any of the existing clusters. Then, a similarity measure is computed between the input signal and all cluster elements in order to identify the most similar waveforms. The inner product of normalized vectors is used as the similarity measure as it allows the searching process to be independent of signal gain and polarity. This development has been applied recently to TJ-II stellarator databases and has been integrated into its remote participation system.Publicación Red Automatl@bs.
