    Accurate Test of Chiral Dynamics in the → 𝛾 ⁢𝑝 →𝜋0⁢𝑝 Reaction

    A precision measurement of the differential cross sections 𝑑⁢𝜎/𝑑⁢𝛺 and the linearly polarized photon asymmetry 𝛴 ≡(𝑑⁢𝜎⊥ −𝑑⁢𝜎∥)/(𝑑⁢𝜎⊥ +𝑑⁢𝜎∥) for the →𝛾⁢𝑝 →𝜋0⁢𝑝 reaction in the near-threshold region has been performed with a tagged photon beam and almost 4⁢𝜋 detector at the Mainz Microtron. The Glasgow-Mainz photon tagging facility along with the Crystal Ball/TAPS multiphoton detector system and a cryogenic liquid hydrogen target were used. These data allowed for a precise determination of the energy dependence of the real parts of the 𝑆- and all three 𝑃-wave amplitudes for the first time and provide the most stringent test to date of the predictions of chiral perturbation theory and its energy region of agreement with experiment.

    La memoria no es el pasado. Tampoco es la Historia, ni siquiera sus relatos silenciados. La memoria pertenece al presente. Sin ella, no sabríamos quiénes somos, cómo relacionarnos con nuestro entorno ni hacia dónde dirigirnos. El objetivo de esta obra es pensar cómo y hasta qué punto la memoria articula la vida política y cultural del presente en el Estado español. En concreto, se centra en el papel de la cultura a la hora de elaborar relatos, de señalar sus fueras de campo, de establecer o deshacer hegemonías, de construir evidencias y materiales del pasado sobre los que se levantan proyectos políticos, sociales y económicos en el presente. En sus capítulos, distintas expresiones artísticas, creativas, visuales y materiales entran a dialogar a través de enfoques feministas, materiales, afectivos, descoloniales y transnacionales. El conjunto dibuja una panorámica amplia y vital sobre el papel de la cultura en la producción y experiencia del pasado. En definitiva, se trata de repensar el peso de esos relatos en nuestro día a día y en sus políticas; es decir, cómo las culturas de la memoria actúan e intervienen en la vida social actual.

    Este libro tiene por objeto el análisis de ciertos aspectos vinculados con la mejora de la actividad docente. La estructura del libro está dividida en cuatro apartados. El primero de ellos, abordara las cuestiones vinculadas a la educación mediática y la cultura de la participación, haciendo hincapié en el papel de las redes sociales, los y las influencers, el aprendizaje expandido, colaborativo y abierto. El apartado segundo, trata acerca de relevancia de la evaluación, la gestión y las políticas educativas que son necesarias para la adecuada implementación de los distintos modelos docentes en los organismos e instituciones educativas. El apartado tercero, ahonda en la cuestión de la docencia de la ciencia en nuestros días y, en particular, dada su relevancia social, de las ciencias de la salud. No es posible, a la altura de nuestro tiempo, concebir una sociedad justa, equitativa y educada, si no es en el seno de una colectividad que aboga por el cuidado de su salud, que valora el cuidado del organismo en su conjunto y, opta, de entre todos los caminos posibles, por hacer valido el lema latino: Mens sana in corpore sano. Por último, el estudio de las cuestiones anteriores requiere, como un prerrequisito transversal, el manejo correcto y la adecuada formación en la búsqueda, revisión y análisis documental. A ello se dedica, con extensión, el cuarto y último apartado del libro.

    Exploring BPA alternatives – Environmental levels and toxicity review

    Bisphenol A alternatives are manufactured as potentially less harmful substitutes of bisphenol A (BPA) that offer similar functionality. These alternatives are already in the market, entering the environment and thus raising ecological concerns. However, it can be expected that levels of BPA alternatives will dominate in the future, they are limited information on their environmental safety. The EU PARC project highlights BPA alternatives as priority chemicals and consolidates information on BPA alternatives, with a focus on environmental relevance and on the identification of the research gaps. The review highlighted aspects and future perspectives. In brief, an extension of environmental monitoring is crucial, extending it to cover BPA alternatives to track their levels and facilitate the timely implementation of mitigation measures. The biological activity has been studied for BPA alternatives, but in a non-systematic way and prioritized a limited number of chemicals. For several BPA alternatives, the data has already provided substantial evidence regarding their potential harm to the environment. We stress the importance of conducting more comprehensive assessments that go beyond the traditional reproductive studies and focus on overlooked relevant endpoints. Future research should also consider mixture effects, realistic environmental concentrations, and the long-term consequences on biota and ecosystems.

    Measuring DNA modifications with the comet assay: a compendium of protocols

    The comet assay is a versatile method to detect nuclear DNA damage in individual eukaryotic cells, from yeast to human. The types of damage detected encompass DNA strand breaks and alkali-labile sites (e.g., apurinic/apyrimidinic sites), alkylated and oxidized nucleobases, DNA–DNA crosslinks, UV-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers and some chemically induced DNA adducts. Depending on the specimen type, there are important modifications to the comet assay protocol to avoid the formation of additional DNA damage during the processing of samples and to ensure sufficient sensitivity to detect differences in damage levels between sample groups. Various applications of the comet assay have been validated by research groups in academia, industry and regulatory agencies, and its strengths are highlighted by the adoption of the comet assay as an in vivo test for genotoxicity in animal organs by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The present document includes a series of consensus protocols that describe the application of the comet assay to a wide variety of cell types, species and types of DNA damage, thereby demonstrating its versatility.

    Retorno a Cova Rosa. Nuevas investigaciones geoarqueológicas en el yacimiento del Pleistoceno superior de Cova Rosa

    La cavidad kárstica de Cova Rosa (Sardéu, Ribadesella, Asturias), abierta en las calizas de La Escalada (Moscoviense, Carbonífero), contiene una importante secuencia arqueosedimentaria excavada durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX por Jordá Cerdá y Gómez Fuentes (1982) con niveles del Solutrense, Magdaleniense y Mesolítico, estudiada sedimentológicamente por Hoyos Gómez (1979). En los últimos años los miembros de un amplio equipo de investigación estamos trabajando de nuevo sobre este yacimiento y sus materiales (Álvarez-Fernández y Jordá Pardo, 2018) y en este trabajo presentamos la secuencia estratigráfica que ha sido estudiada de nuevo con metodología geoarqueológica.

    The IGCP 714 Project “3GEO – Geoclimbing & Geotrekking in Geoparks” – Selection of Geodiversity Sites Equipped for Climbing for Combining Outdoor and Multimedia Activities

    The IGCP 714 project “3GEO – Geoclimbing & Geotrekking in Geoparks” is financed by the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) and supported by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). In this paper, we report on the results of the first phase of the project focused on the criteria to be adopted to select geodiversity sites equipped for climbing or trekking. The selection of geoclimbing sites and geotrekking routes is aimed at combining multimedia tools and outdoor activities for Geosciences promotion and conservation in UNESCO Global Geoparks, aspiring geoparks or geoparks project, and also in protected areas featuring geoheritage sites. Indeed, both outdoor activities and multimedia tools favour the pursuing of many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (e.g., 3, 4, 8, 11). An international consortium of geoscientists from 12 different countries selected, through the proposed procedure, 22 geoclimbing sites, and then they also detected 30 geotrekking routes mirroring Earth geodiversity. At some test sites (geoclimbing and geotrekking) multimedia tools and digital outcrop models have been developed through different methodological approaches (e.g., Structure from Motion and Multi-View Stereo photogrammetry), to open the way to the second part of the project still in progress. These sites and the relative virtual models are herein also shown. The final aim of the IGCP 714 project is indeed to create an open data repository (digital outcrop models, videos, virtual tours, photos, scientific information, and interpretations) to upload data of the selected sites to mirror Earth geodiversity for different users including tourists and school groups.
