The increasing life expectancy of people living with HIV poses a number of challenges, such as premature aging. This paper analyzes the perception of three samples (the population-based study developed by the European Social Survey in 2008, a sample of the CORIS cohort in 2017 composed of 285 people aged 50 years or older with HIV and a convenience sample of Psychology students assessed in 2023) on stereotypes related to aging following the Stereotype Content Model. The results show a high rate of agreement between the three samples analyzed on the two dimensions proposed by the Stereotype Content Model: competence and warmth. In all three samples, warmth is perceived to be greater than competence, which is associated with the cultural stereotype of the elderly people and the aging process. These results reveal a paternalistic prejudice that may negatively affect the elderly. The importance of this study, the first of the Goshape project, lies in the fact that our next research steps will focus on verifying the process of internalization of this stereotype and its influence on different indicators of health and life satisfaction among people with HIV. Knowing aspects related to aging and its internalization in this population group will contribute to the design of interventions aimed at patients, health professionals, caregivers and society as a whole, to reduce the negative effects of the agerelated stereotype on people who show premature aging.
