A partir de la documentación conservada y el análisis artístico, este trabajo examina la actuación de promotores, sus intereses, el trabajo de los canteros encargados de las obras, los problemas de financiación a los que hubo que hacer frente y, en definitiva, el complejo proceso constructivo de la iglesia en el siglo XV. El conocimiento detallado de estas circunstancias nos permite establecer criterios de emulación con respecto de obras de referencia en la época y comportamientos comunes a otros centros artísticos coetáneos para proponer, como objetivo final, una reflexión sobre el concepto de élite periférica aplicado a todas las facetas de la creación artística de la época: fábricas, promotores y canteros.The study of the San Cosme and San Damián de Covarrubias church demonstrates the difficulty that some Castilian religious institutions had to renovate their buildings during the Late Gothic period. Based on the preserved written sources and the architectural analysis of the church, this paper examines the actions of promoters, their interests, the labor of the stonemasons in charge of the works, the financing problems and, ultimately, the complex process of construction of the church in the 15th century.
