This paper shows the procedures and methodologies applied in the central sector of the Sierra de Guadarrama (Spanish Central Range), for the detailed study of the geomorphological bases of its natural landscapes. Based on topographic cartography and the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), the aim is to apply indirect quantitative morphometric methods for the analysis of topography, as complementary methodologies for the detailed study of landforms. In this way, maps of various morphometric variables are obtained that are revealing and useful in the detailed study of geomorphology and landscape. In the development of the methodology, in addition to these morphometric maps, derived maps from the relief of the area are used. Maps of slopes and shaded relief, which are now easily obtained by processing the DEM using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results are a series of morphometric maps for each of the morphometric variables: density of dissection, depth of dissection and energy of the relief. Their analysis, together with the geology and geomorphology of the study area, as well as the combination with direct methods, with several field works carried out, allowed a more precise study of the geomorphological basis of the landscape at a detailed scale.
