El levantamiento del Catastro de Ensenada supuso la averiguación de unas 15.000 localidades, cuyos resultados, compilados en más de 80.000 volúmenes, se han convertido en la mejor fuente geohistórica para el conocimiento de la Corona de Castilla a mediados del siglo XVIII. Sin embargo, a pesar de su valor y uso, no conocemos su coste. Con esta investigación nos proponemos conocer cuánto costó el Catastro de Ensenada, cómo se estructura la fuente, qué factores están detrás de esos gastos y, además, analizaremos de manera pormenorizada los gastos de la provincia de Jaén para terminar con más de dos centurias y media de desconocimiento de esta cuestión.
The completion of the Ensenada Cadastre involved the investigation of approximately 15,000 localities, whose compiled results are contained in over 80,000 volumes that have become the best geohistorical source for understanding the Crown of Castile in the mid-18th century. However, despite its value and use, we do not know its cost. Throughout this research, our goal is to determine the cost of the Ensenada Cadastre, understand the structure of the source, identify the factors behind these expenses, and furthermore, provide a detailed analysis of the expenses related to the province of Jaén, thereby putting an end to over two and a half centuries of ignorance regarding this matter.
