AI-based translation systems are increasingly being used in professional translation and also by the general public. They produce a high amount of interference from English, which does not impede understanding but creates an artificial style. This project sets out to compare several AI translation systems; analyse the calques found; determine whether AI produces similar calques when creating Spanish text from scratch; and determine whether these AI calques are being accepted as part of the norm. The results show that the four systems analysed produce almost identical texts and calques, which supports the idea that AI impoverishes texts via simplification. It shows that the translations include a large amount of style calques, of which structural calques and literality are the main groups. Moreover, it demonstrates that AI creates the same type of calques when creating Spanish texts from scratch. Finally, this project proves that these style calques are being accepted as part of the Spanish norm. In sum, AI is influencing the style of Spanish texts with English calques, without users being aware of it.
