This article focuses on the analysis of phraseological units in Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, drawing upon the linguistic approach of Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology (LEC). The starting point is the concept of phraseological unit, which is described in the selected corpus along two axes, namely, a lexico-semantic axis and a textual one. Le Petit Prince, which has been translated into more than two hundred languages, is very frequently read by learners of French and other languages. It is replete with phraseological units whose description proves necessary for a profound understanding of the work. Using the most representative examples, the present article shows that phrasemes play a fundamental role for the comprehension of the text and provide textual cohesion from inferences during the elaboration of meaning.
